Stochastically-induced bistability in chemical reaction systems

چکیده

We study a stochastic two-species chemical reaction system with two mechanisms. One mechanism consists of chemical interactions which governs the overall drift of species amounts in the system; the other mechanism consists of resampling, branching or splitting which makes unbiased perturbative changes to species amounts. Our results show that in a system with a large but bounded capacity, certain combinations of these two types of interactions can lead to stochastically-induced bistability. Depending on the relative magnitudes of the rates of these two sets of interactions, bistability can occur in two distinct ways with different dynamical signatures.

DYNAMICS OF OPEN AND THE ALGEBRAIC Printed in Great Britain CHEMICAL SYSTEMS STRUCTURE OF THE UNDERLYING REACTION NETWORK

While there has been a longstanding interest in stability of non-isothermal reactors there has only recently developed a comparable interest in the dynamics of onen isothermal reactors with complex chemical reaction networks. In the recent literature there has been paid particular attention to the study of biological reaction systems which might exhibit sustained oscillations (biological clocks...

The Chemical Master Equation Approach to Nonequilibrium Steady-State of Open Biochemical Systems: Linear Single-Molecule Enzyme Kinetics and Nonlinear Biochemical Reaction Networks

We develop the stochastic, chemical master equation as a unifying approach to the dynamics of biochemical reaction systems in a mesoscopic volume under a living environment. A living environment provides a continuous chemical energy input that sustains the reaction system in a nonequilibrium steady state with concentration fluctuations. We discuss the linear, unimolecular single-molecule enzyme...

Product-form Stationary Distributions for Deficiency Zero Chemical Reaction Networks By

We consider both deterministically and stochastically modeled chemical reaction systems and prove that a product-form stationary distribution exists for each closed, irreducible subset of the state space of a stochastically modeled system (with quite general kinetics) if the corresponding deterministically modeled system (with mass-action kinetics) admits a complex balanced equilibrium. External noise-induced phenomena in CO oxidation on single crystal surfaces.

The influence of external noise on minimalistic models for the catalytic CO oxidation on Ir(111) and Pt(111) is studied by means of the adiabatic elimination technique. Two models, which reproduce the bistable behavior usually observed in CO oxidation on Pt group metal surfaces, are analyzed. The noise is superposed on the fraction of CO in the constant gas flow directed at the surfaces and the...
